Conditions favorable for afternoon thundershowers in Northern, North-central, Eastern and Uva provinces

Starting today, atmospheric conditions are becoming favorable for afternoon thundershowers over the next few days in the Northern, North-central, Eastern and Uva provinces.

Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and Galle and Matara districts, will have several spells of showers.

After 2.00 p.m., showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Uva, Central and Eastern provinces and in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Due to its apparent southward relative motion, the sun is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 28th of August to 07th of September. The nearest places of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today (03) are Madampe, Thorayaya, Thotagamuwa, Rattota and Kalavanchikudy about 12.09 noon.
