Sri Lanka Navy brings 25 Indonesian fishermen ashore at Colombo Port

Twenty-five Indonesian fishermen were safely brought ashore at the Colombo Port yesterday (24) by the Sri Lanka Navy following a multi-agency rescue operation.

The fishermen had been aboard the Indonesian fishing trawler KM Garuda Jaya VI, which capsized south of Sri Lanka on 22 September while within the Australian Search and Rescue Region. All 25 were rescued from the sea by the merchant vessel MV Moonstone, which alerted the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo.

Under the coordination of MRCC Colombo, the Sri Lanka Navy dispatched two craft to bring the rescued fishermen ashore. The Navy subsequently transferred all 25 survivors safely to the Colombo Port, provided them with humanitarian assistance and handed them over to the Indonesian Embassy in Sri Lanka for further action.
