Wild elephant Agbo located in Anuradhapura District with Army support

The wild elephant Agbo was located on 19 October in the Nachchaduwa Ihattawa jungle area in the Anuradhapura District, with the support of Sri Lanka Army personnel. The animal’s whereabouts had been the subject of a search operation.

Following a request by the Minister of Environment, the Sri Lanka Army deployed a special team to assist wildlife officials in the search, on the directives of Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd). An initial platoon of 30 Army personnel was deployed for the operation, and the number of troops was subsequently increased to expedite the search efforts.

Army personnel coordinated closely with wildlife officials and extended support to their efforts to locate the wild tusker.
