Taxpayers urged to submit 2025/2026 income tax returns by November 30, 2026
The Inland Revenue Department has urged taxpayers to submit annual income tax returns for the 2025/2026 year of assessment on or before November 30, 2026.
Deputy Commissioner General J.M.S.S. Ratnawardhana announced the deadline at a media briefing at the Department of Government Information on October 19. He said online submission of income tax returns has been available since July 1, 2026.
Nearly 1.2 million individuals are registered with the department for tax purposes, Ratnawardhana noted, urging taxpayers to file early rather than wait until the deadline.
He also clarified that individuals whose taxes have been deducted from their salaries or bank interest may still be required to file income tax returns, even if they believe they have no additional tax to pay.
Failure to submit returns within the stipulated period may result in penalties, legal action or additional tax assessments. Taxpayers were therefore urged to meet the deadline to avoid such consequences.
