Sri Lanka and Japan have discussed strengthening bilateral relations through new economic and industrial cooperation initiatives, including the establishment of an economic corridor and a special industrial zone.

The talks were held between Minister Sunil Handunnetti and a Japanese delegation led by Hon. FUJI Kazuhiro, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. Both sides also discussed the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Japan, which falls in January 2027, and ways to mark the milestone meaningfully.

The Japanese delegation commended Sri Lanka’s “Vyasa Centre” initiative, which aims to facilitate timely services for foreign investors. Japan also expressed its willingness to support Sri Lanka’s participation in EXPO 2027 and to further strengthen economic and trade relations between the two countries.
