Easter Sunday attacks case verdict scheduled for today

A three-member Colombo High Court Bench at the Aluthkade High Court is scheduled to deliver the verdict today (22) in the case related to the Easter Sunday attacks.

The case was heard by High Court Judges Navaratne Marasinghe, Ramanathan Kannan and Sujeewa Nishshanka. After extensive evidence was recorded, the court also recorded the statements of the accused in their defence. The bench then ordered that the verdict be delivered today (22).

The Attorney General filed the case in 2021 against four accused, including Naufar Moulavi, under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, over allegations including conspiring to carry out suicide terrorist attacks on Easter Sunday on behalf of the National Thawheed Jamaath organization and providing support and assistance.

A total of 23,270 charges have been filed in the case. All four accused have been remanded under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
