Afternoon thundershowers likely from October 1st in most parts of the island

Atmospheric conditions are becoming favorable for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of the island from October 1st.

Showers or thundershowers may occur after 1.00 p.m. at several places in the Uva, Eastern and Central provinces and in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts. Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm are likely at some places in those areas.

A few showers may occur during the morning in the coastal areas of the Western Province and in the Galle and Matara districts. Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces during the early hours of the morning.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
