Sri Lanka’s sprint ace Yupun Abeykoon has failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the Men’s 100m event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after finishing 42nd overall in the heats with a timing of 10.32s.
He was sixth in the Heat 3 of the 100m dash. Italy’s Marcell Jacobs won the heat with a timing of 9.94s.
Andre de Grasse of Canada who won the Heat 5 clocking 9.91s will head to the semi-finals as the fastest qualifier.
Italy’s Marcell Jacobs, Fred Kerley of the United States and Nigeria’s Enoch Adegoke all ran sub 10 seconds in the heats.
Men’s 100m final and the semi-finals of the 2020 Olympic Games will be worked off tomorrow at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo.
Accordingly, eight out of the nine Sri Lankans who featured at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games have been eliminated without making any substantial achievement.
Only Mathilda Karlsson who will represent Sri Lanka in equestrian event is yet to feature at this year’s game. She will be in action on Monday.
