The Samagi Jana Balawegaya says the decision by the government to vest the Kerawalapitiya Yugadanavi Power Plant with an American firm, is a major threat to the country’s economy and politics.
Speaking at a media briefing today, Parliamentarian Kavinda Jayawardhana said the opposition came into power promising to uphold national security and to develop the economy.
However he charged that when the energy sector is vested with another country, complete control is handed over, that could lead to electricity tariffs being increased, power cuts being enforced and power being curtailed.
MP Jayawardhana said the government will lose complete control of the energy sector.
He stated international organisations will then handle the country’s politics.
The Parliamentarian said all this is evidence of the government’s unpatriotic decisions and actions.
