COLOMBO (NewsRadio); A youth has been arrested for stealing ATM cards from various individuals and withdrawing cash from them.

The Police Media Division said nearly 50 complaints have been lodged with the Piliyandala, Kottawa, Dehiwela, Mirihana and Maharagama Police stations over the scam.

The youth has been arrested with 15 forged ATM cards and has been handed over to the Mirihana Police station.

Police said under the pretext of helping unsuspecting individuals to withdraw money from ATM machines, the individual has been obtaining ATM cards along with the pin numbers.

Police noted following the transaction, the individual has been returning forged ATM cards instead of the original cards to the owners.

Subsequently, he has been withdrawing cash using the stolen ATM cards.

He is a 24-year-old resident of Piliyandala.

The individual is scheduled to be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court today.

The Mirihana Police is conducting further investigations.
