Minister of Labour Nimal Siripala de Silva says the government will not take any responsibility for the safety of those who travel overseas illegally on tourist visas.
Responding to a question raised by Parliamentarian Shantha Bandara on the status of the pension scheme for expatriates in Parliament today, Minister de Silva said the process will be completed with three months.
The Minister said a special insurance scheme has been prepared for all labourers leaving for employment overseas.
Minister de Silva said individuals leave the country on visit visa adding the government does not have any legal method of ensuring their safety as a result.
The Minister said the government must consider these individuals as well.
The Minister said they are also engaging in discussions with employment agencies on ensuring the safety of female labourers.
