Leader of the Opposition Parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa says the Samagi Jana Balawegaya will not directly or indirectly support any provision or programme that will adversely affect free education.

The Opposition Leader said he is unconditionally opposed to such adverse provisions and programmes adding that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya unanimously decided to defeat amendments to the Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Act in Parliament.

Speaking to media after an event, MP Premadasa said SJB MPs focusing on education and affiliated scholars held discussions and reached the unanimous decision.

He said they received reports that the government is attempting to amend the Universities Act, No.16 of 1978 by bringing negative amendments.
