COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The United Nations says women and children are the most affected by the economic crisis in Sri Lanka.
The Director of the South and Southwest Asia Sub-regional Office of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Mikiko Tanaka has accordingly emphasized the importance of empowering rural women by providing them with necessary facilities to uplift their lives.
The observation was made during a discussion with Minister of Industries Ramesh Pathirana.
Director Mikiko Tanaka has indicated that there is a better chance of proving a safe environment for women and children by creating micro and small-scale female entrepreneurs.
She also has said the ESCAP has initiated several programmes to promote micro and small-scale women entrepreneurs in the country and uplift their livelihoods.
