Minister of Environment Mahinda Amaraweera says the government will take steps to resolve teachers’ salary anomalies while upholding their respect.
Speaking to media in Colombo Minister Amaraweera said the Ministerial Sub-committee appointed to resolve teachers concerns met at Ministerial level over the past few days to obtain all necessary information.
He added discussions will be held with teacher unions on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Minister noted discussions will be held with the Ministry of Finance thereafter, following which recommendations will be tabled during the Cabinet of Ministers meeting due to be held next Monday.
He noted teachers unions have presented various demands adding the committee will resolve their concerns while taking into consideration the country’s economic situation as well.
Commenting on gas prices and the shortage, Minister Amaraweera said the state gas company will not increase gas prices after taking into consideration financial burdens faced by the public.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said over 80% of gas is distributed by the state sector while the other company increased prices in line with the rise in the world market.
The Minister added the government cannot control gas prices adding the government is incurring a loss of Rs.1 billion monthly at present.
