Today marks the second day of the indefinite strike launched by the Academy of Health Professionals.

Employees of several units including medical laboratory scientists and pharmacists are part of the strike action.

The strike was launched based on several demands including salary anomalies.

President of the Academy Ravi Kumudesh speaking to NewsRadio said officials had failed to provide a favourable solution to their demands.

Kumudesh said the trade union action is underway successfully adding they regret the inconvenience caused to the public due to the trade union action.

He said they are attempting to provide voluntary services across main hospitals in order to reduce the burden caused to the public.

He noted they have no alternative as a responsible faction has not come forward to discuss the matter with the trade unions thus far.

He added the government has been avoiding the matter throughout the course of their trade union action.

Kumudesh said they will continue the strike until a favourable solution is provided, adding however they will take all possible steps to resolve the matter through discussions.

Furthermore, Ravi Kumudesh said the present state of the administration of the Ministry of Health is regrettable.

He claimed the current health sector administration is incompetent and incapable of carrying out its responsibilities.

Kumudesh said the public is receiving a proper health service due to the dedication of health professionals.

He added their salary structures have been threatened due to political interventions.

Kumudesh said the prevalent issues cannot be allowed to continue into the future adding therefore they will continue the trade union action until all matters have been resolved.
