The Department of Wildlife has generated Rs.7 million during the year 2022 in fines.

The Department said the funds were obtained as fines following court cases against individuals who harmed the environment and wildlife.

The Department added that Rs.1,421 million was generated as income as of November 2022 mainly through license fees.

The details were uncovered following a discussion held with Minister of Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Mahinda Amaraweera and the Department of Wildlife.

Minister Amaraweera issued directives to launch programmes to attract foreign tourists to the Yala National Park, Wilpattu and Wasgamuwa National Parks this year.

The Minister said since foreign arrivals have increased, measures should be taken to open additional ticket counters to issue tickets to avoid delays.
