COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Health Promotion Bureau says the number of individuals infected with the influenza A strain has seen a steep increase in the past few days.
The HPB said the number of cases increase annually during the period from December to February and from April to June.
The Bureau noted that through the conduct of PCR tests, it has identified that subtype of influenza H1 is prevalent in the society.
The Health Promotion Bureau said the cases have increased due to the rainy weather and the cold temperatures reported in the night and morning hours across several parts of the country.
The Bureau said a healthy person who is infected with the virus will recover naturally after three to four days.
The Health Promotion Bureau noted that expectant mothers, children under two years of age, the elderly, and those suffering from chronic diseases are at risk of contracting the virus.
