Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa says the World Health Organisation has warned that the daily coronavirus cases could be 6,000 while the daily death toll could be 220.
MP Premadasa speaking in Parliament this morning said if a two-week lockdown can be imposed, the daily COVID-cases could be reduced to 1,000 while deaths could be reduced to 25 as per predictions of the WHO.
The Parliamentarian said all citizens must work towards preventing a possible 18,000 deaths predicted by the WHO by the year 2022.
He said the Opposition is prepared to prevent such a situation and questioned if the government is willing to do so as well adding political alliances must be set aside.
MP Premadasa called for the public to think humanely of the lives that were lost.
The Parliamentarian said not only the WHO but other organisations have all called for a two-week lockdown due to the immense pressure on the healthcare system.
