Parliamentarian Mujibur Rahman says the present administration from the outset politicised the coronavirus pandemic and therefore the country is now facing a major crisis.
Speaking in Parliament today, MP Rahman said the present administration should take full responsibility for the crisis. He claimed the government is not working for the best interest of the people at present.
MP Mujibur Rahman said if the government did not take appropriate decisions, the situation will deteriorate further. He said the government removed a number of efficient state officials from their posts which led to the crisis deteriorate further. Parliamentarian Mujibur Rahman noted that the government did not start the vaccination drive early and instead it prompted syrups while discrediting individuals who reiterated the importance of procuring vaccine doses at the early stage. He said now even the deaths rates have increased steeply from a daily average of 50 to 60. Parliamentarian Mujibur Rahman therefore urged the government to take appropriate measures to control the situation instead of politicising it.
Parliamentarian Ajith Mannapperuma said the government has used the COVID-19 crisis as a tool to suppress the protestors. MP Mannapperuma said the government should listen to the concerns of the people instead of attempting to silence them and depriving them of their rights.
State Minister Arundika Fernando said the President has been working tirelessly to make the vaccination drive a success. Speaking in Parliament, State Minister Fernando claimed the President is flexible when taking decisions regarding COVID-19 and said that the entire government is determined contain the spread of the novel coronavirus promptly.
