State Minister of Consumer Protection Lasantha Alagiyawanna claims the government has presented a successful budget amidst a global energy crisis.

Speaking in Parliament today, during the debate on the second reading of the 2022 Budget, State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna said the country has faced a number of issues owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The State Minister said the world is currently facing energy, coal, and gas shortages and price hikes.

He said energy prices have increased by 300 to 400 percent.

State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna noted that when energy prices increase, transportation charges and operating costs of factories rise rapidly.

He said the global price hike has impacted the country severely as well.

The State Minister also said no one can deny that cost of living has increased steeply but claimed that the present administration is taking measures to provide relief to the public.
