COLOMBO (NewsRadio); State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has refuted claims that the prices of products and equipment used by differently-abled people will increase by 400 percent due to recent tax revisions.

State Minister Siyambalapitiya noted that there is no basis in such claims, since the government does not levy VAT or Customs duty on equipment used by people with special needs.

The State Minister therefore stressed that the prices of equipment used by people with special needs will not increase due to the new tax policy.

The State Minister was responding to claims by certain factions that the prices of equipment used by differently-abled people will increase by 400 percent following the new tax amendments and therefore the life expectancy of such persons will decrease to 50 years.
