COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Convener of the Inter University Students Federation Wasantha Mudalige and seven others arrested yesterday during a protest have been granted bail.
The Mahara Magistrate granted bail after the group was presented before court today.
A total of eight persons including the Convener of the Inter University Students Federation, Wasantha Mudalige were arrested last evening in Kiribathgoda during a protest.
Police said during the protest organized by the IUSF a heated situation arose when several individuals attempted to block the Kandy-Colombo main road.
During the commotion, two Police officers had sustained injuries and were admitted to the Kiribathgoda hospital.
Police said subsequently, Wasantha Mudalige, a Buddhist monk and six others were apprehended for being part of an illegal assembly, assaulting and causing injuries to Police officers and obstructing Police officers from carrying out their duties.
