Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella says the vaccination drive of persons between the ages of 18 and 30 was launched at district level as of today.
The Minister said several individuals in this age group were administered vaccines, during vaccination drives underway for frontline workers.
In addition, the Minister said a certain number of youth in the 18 to 30 age group in essential sectors including the apparel industry were also vaccinated.
Minister Rambukwella said around 3.7 million individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 are due to be vaccinated while directives were issued to relevant authorities to complete the vaccination process at the earliest.
The Minister expressed hope that all those over the age of 30 will be fully vaccinated before the end of the next two to three weeks and is also hopeful of completing vaccinations of individuals between 18 and 30 years of age before the end of October.
