Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva says the vaccination of children with inherent illnesses, aged between 12 and 19, will commence tomorrow.

The Army Commander said the programme will be carried out in the Colombo, Anuradhapura and Kurunegala districts.

He noted COVID-19 vaccines will be administered at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children in Colombo, and at clinics in the other two districts.

The Army Commander said directives were issued to vaccinate children under the supervision of specialists at the respective clinics.

He further said a final decision has not been reached thus far pertaining to administering a third dose or booster shot for Sri Lankans.

General Silva said the President instructed to place orders for a third dose or booster shot as necessary if required. He said there is a specific time frame to administer a third dose after receiving the second dose.

The Army Commander said relevant medical officials will issue directives on the matter, adding that the President will reach the final decision at a Task Force meeting after considering recommendations by experts.
