The Ceylon Teachers Service Union says intellect instead of physical strength must be used in addressing teachers’ issues.
Speaking to media during the Sathyagraha campaign launched with several trade unions at the Independence Square today, the Secretary of the Union Mahinda Jayasinghe condemned remarks made by certain Ministers who are members of the Cabinet Sub-Committee appointed to resolve teachers’ issues.
Jayasinghe said claims made by Minister Prasanna Ranatunga that the protests are politically motivated are false.
He said 30 trade unions are not making unfair or political demands and are only requesting salary increments which they are owed.
He noted teachers have doubts as to whether the Cabinet Sub-Committee will provide fair and just solutions since members of the Committee are attempting to label their requests as political requests.
