The opposition has called on the government to use funds allocated for unnecessary development projects to resolve teachers’ issues.
Speaking during a media briefing Parliamentarian Gayantha Karunatilleka said a large amount of funds have been allocated for such projects through regional politicians.
The MP noted a prompt solution must be provided to allow teachers to return to school and teach children with a free mind, when schools reopen on Thursday.
He added this must be done at least by cutting off unnecessary expenses.
MP Karunatilleka urged the government to think about the country’s children and provide a favourable solution promptly.
MP Karunatilleka further said not only teachers but the public in general is burdened as they are unable to bear the cost of living at present.
He claimed everyone is facing severe financial issues at present, despite various promises made by the present administration prior to coming into power.
The MP added government MPs are making various ridiculous claims at present.
