Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed officials to formulate a system to compensate state official receiving treatment at home for COVID-19 through the Agrahara Insurance Fund.

A discussion in this regard was held at the Temple Trees with representatives of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna trade unions last evening.

During the discussion, the Prime Minister said efficiency and productivity in the public service should be enhanced adding that responsible officials should be proactive.

Premier Rajapaksa also instructed the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration to look into recovering pensions of employees who joined the public service after 2016, that were not available during the term of the previous government.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the need to limit spending at state institutions when the economy has been affected by the COVID-pandemic.
