The United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung has recalled the multitude of ways the US and Sri Lanka have come together in 2022 to make a difference.
Taking to Twitter Chung said, in 2022 alone, the United States has announced more than USD 240 million in new assistance to Sri Lanka.
She said the new assistance supports basic food security and addresses the needs of the most vulnerable communities, including funding for school lunches, fertiliser for small holder farmers, and cash assistance for new and expectant mothers.
The Ambassador said the US is also supporting loans, training and assistance for Small and Medium Enterprises in Sri Lanka, as they face the heaviest burden in times of crisis.
She added this assistance is on top of existing development partnership working with government, the private sector, civil society, and the people of Sri Lanka.
Chung noted that the US relationship with Sri Lanka is much bigger than just about assistance, adding that its about partnership.
She claimed together we’ve taken steps to rid the oceans of plastics, address the crisis of climate change, connect neighbours, build bilateral trade, and advance a free and open Indo Pacific region.
Chung said 2022 has been an unforgettable year and expressed hope that 2023 will bring economic recovery, lasting change, and new opportunities to the people of Sri Lanka.
