COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Urea fertiliser stocks required by paddy farmers in the Maha season will be released from tomorrow.
Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera said fertiliser will be released through offices of the Department of Agrarian Development.
Another shipment of 22,000MT of urea fertiliser arrived at the Colombo harbor on Sunday.
The fertiliser shipment was procured from Malaysia through World Bank funding.
After arriving to observe the unloading of the shipment, Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera said they have adequate stocks of urea fertiliser and steps have been taken to orderly distribute them.
The Minister added that warehouses of the two fertiliser companies are at full capacity, at present.
Accordingly, distribution of fertiliser stocks will begin tomorrow.
The World Bank approved a loan of USD 105 million to purchase urea fertiliser stocks required for paddy and maize cultivations in the 2022/23 Maha season.
The Ministry of Agriculture noted that 120,000MT of urea fertiliser have been procured for this season.
