Senior Vice President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Prof. Rohana Luxman Piyadasa says a private university structure should not be allowed to be created in the country.
Speaking to media in Kandy, Piyadasa said the country’s university system should also undergo changes.
He said the local university system should be reformed, while new courses must be introduced with students’ scope widened.
He claimed that all students should receive higher education, adding that speaking of only one or two institutions alone will not address the situation at hand.
Rohana Luxman claimed that children of politicians, businessmen and other leaders are not pursuing higher education in Sri Lanka and have instead travelled overseas for education purposes.
Therefore, Piyadasa stated, concerns pertaining to higher education is mostly faced by children of the general public.
He reiterated that policymakers will not address this issue as it is not relevant to them.
