The discussion scheduled for today between trade unions and the Cabinet subcommittee appointed to resolve salary anomalies of teachers and principals, has been postponed for tomorrow.

Speaking to NewsRadio, General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Service Union Mahinda Jayasinhe said the discussion was rescheduled since the weekly Cabinet of Ministers’ meeting is slated to be held later today.

Mahinda Jayasinhe said although eight days have lapsed since the appointed of the subcommittee, they have not been given an opportunity to raise their concerns.

He said the committee is tactically meeting trade unions separately and trying to buy time without resolving the matter.

CTSU General Secretary Mahinda Jayasinhe claimed that the Cabinet subcommittee has not understood the predicament and is not keen on resolving the issue.

He said examination dates are being postponed on a regular basis while authorities are also facing difficulties to release examination results.

Mahinda Jayasinhe therefore urged the Cabinet subcommittee to listen to their concerns to resolve the issue and bring back normalcy to the education sector in Sri Lanka.
