The Ceylon Teachers’ Union says it dose not agree with the statement made by the government that a solution to the salary anomalies will be provided only through the upcoming budget.
Speaking to NewsRadio, the Chief Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union Joseph Stalin said their struggle will continue until a solution is provided.
The Chief Secretary of the Union said a clear response was not given to them at the discussion held at the Education Ministry premises with Ministers Prof. GL Peiris, Bandula Gunawardana and Gamini Lokuge.
He added on three occasions the Cabinet of Ministers discussed the teachers’ and principals’ salary anomalies.
Stalin also requested the Ministry of Education to immediately withdraw the circular issued by the Secretary to the Education Ministry to recall school teachers back to work.
Stalin said they requested Minister Peiris to only recall teachers to school a week prior to the day on which the schools will be opened.
Meanwhile, The Ceylon Teachers’ Service Union said the government’s decision to provide a solution to salary anomalies through the forthcoming budget is merely a promise.
The Chief Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Service Union Mahinda Jayasinghe said they have no faith in such statements of the government as it was previously said that Rs.3,000 million will be allocated to resolve the issue in 2009.
Jayasinghe said the government is continuing to avoid and delay a solution to the issue adding the government has moved the matter to next week’s Cabinet discussion.
The Chief Secretary of the Union requested the government to provide a swift solution.
