Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Mayantha Dissanayake says the unemployment rate in the country has risen to 5.7%.

MP Dissanayake speaking in Parliament yesterday said current salaries are insufficient to even bills at the end of the month and to purchase vegetables.

The Parliamentarian said inflation has become incalculable as it changes daily.

He said government tax income has decreased by 9.2% while state debt has increased by 111% by the year 2022 adding the country must repay USD46.7 billion in debt.

State Minister Chanaka joining the debate said an agitation area was created opposite the Presidential Secretariat for protests, adding that the President created an era where he himself addresses issues.

He added solutions were provided to issues faced by teachers, and graduates, while 100,000 job opportunities were also created in the state sector.

He claimed that such progress has not been ensured before adding that this all took place amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
