Minister of Urban Development and Housing Prasanna Ranatunga has instructed the Urban Development Authority to promptly resolve all concerns linked to the Peliyagoda Manning Market Complex.
The Minister informed the UDA to compile a report of the steps taken to resolve the issues together with the UDA, the trade association, the Police and other government stakeholders.
Minister Ranatunga said he has received information that the Peliyagoda Manning Market is being utilised by outside parties for various deeds of misconduct and advised the Police to strictly enforce the law against such persons.
A discussion was held under the patronage of Minister Ranatunga with the officers attached to the UDA and the Peliyagoda Trade Association.
Several issues were taken up for discussion, including the provision of facilities such as shops, parking lots, toilets, electricity, water etc.
The Minister also advised officials to ensure the Peliyagoda Manning Market generates an income and vowed to represent traders.
Minister Ranatunga claimed that the Peliyagoda Market should be maintained in a manner that it does not burden traders and consumers.
He also called for the Peliyagoda Manning Market to be developed as a trade complex with modern technology.
