COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Urban Development Authority says it generated over USD 500,000 through the sale of housing units within the Viyathpura Housing Scheme in Pannipitiya.
The UDA said it earned US$ 500,000 by selling eleven middle-class housing units at the Viyathpura Scheme under the government’s programme to sell the UDA-built apartments for foreign currency to Sri Lankan migrant workers.
The first apartment in the scheme was sold to a Lankan migrant worker in Dubai last September.
The UDA added that Sri Lankans living in the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Fiji have purchased housing units.
Meanwhile, Minister of Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said, “Even though the UDA had targeted to raise US$ 500,000 from selling houses on dollar terms this year, it has been able to exceed the target even before the end of this year.”
