The Chairman of the Urban Development Authority Prasad Ranaweera has urged the public to refrain from creating any undue fear over the Muthurajawela Wetland Zone.
Speaking at a media briefing at the Government Information Department yesterday, Ranaweera said they expect the support of all individuals in order to protect the Muthurajawela Wetlands.
Ranaweera said prior to seeking legal action, holding protests and engaging in hunger strikes respective groups should have approached relevant institutions who he said would have informed of their plan as the UDA and involved institutions.
The UDA Chairman said the Cardinal, the Maha Sangha, Members of Parliament, public representatives and the public are all working towards protecting the land area.
Ranaweera said the UDA will complete its project within a short time span and assured that through such effort’s livelihoods will not be affected in any manner.
