Fully vaccinated Sri Lankans will be able to obtain tourist visas to visit the United Arab Emirates from today.

The UAE government has announced that it will resume accepting applications for tourist visas from vaccinated individuals from all countries who have received full doses of the COVID-19 vaccine approved by the World Health Organization.

The decision will be applicable to visitors from countries from which entry was previously prohibited including, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Nigeria, and Uganda.

Accordingly, the UAE will allow persons who have received both doses of the AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer, Sinopharm and Sinovac and the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

The tourist visa is granted for either 30 days or 90 days, and usually applies for people who are not eligible for visa-on-arrival in the UAE.

Last week, the UAE allowed passengers carrying passports of Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan or Uganda with tourist visas with certain conditions.

The move comes as the UAE is preparing to host the Middle East Investment Summit as the number of coronavirus cases is gradually decreasing.
