COLOMBO (NewsRadio); A private tutor who was accused of sexually abusing 16 school girls have been arrested in Kalutara this morning (11).

The Police Media Division said the private tuition class teacher was arrested when he arrived to record a statement at the Kalutara Child and Women Abuse Prevention Bureau this morning.

The incident came to light following a complaint lodged by the wife of the accused tuition class teacher.

The woman had lodged a complaint with the Kalutara-North Police accusing her husband of being involved in extramarital affairs.

She had claimed that during an inspection of her husband’s laptop, she had found video recordings of the tuition class teacher sexually abusing school girls.

Subsequent to the revelation, Kalutara Child and Women Abuse Prevention Bureau commenced investigations pertaining to the incident.

The Bureau is in the process of identifying the victims by analyzing the recordings.

According to Police, further investigations have been launched to assess whether the said individual had abused more school girls while conducting private classes.

The Kalutara Child and Women Abuse Prevention Bureau said parents are reluctant to come forward and lodge complaints due to the implication the incident will have on their children.
