Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera says a decision has been reached to provide farmers the required volume of Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) fertiliser free of charge, which is an essential chemical fertiliser for rice cultivation during the upcoming yala season.
A decision was also reached to provide TSP during the maha season, yet purchases could not be made due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The Minister said the ship containing 36,000MT of TSP is scheduled to reach Sri Lanka in the first two weeks of February.
Minister Amaraweera said 125,000MT of urea fertiliser was imported for the maha season of which 75% has been sold.
At present, agricultural centres have 10,000MT and warehouses hold 20,000MT including another 30,000MT of urea fertiliser.
The Minister also stated that 5% of MOP has been sold thus far.
Therefore, the Ministry of Agriculture will supply all fertiliser required for paddy cultivation during the 2023 yala season.
