COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Trincomalee Harbour, one of the finest natural harbors in the world has commenced night operations.

The Ministry of Ports and Aviation said night operations at the harbour commenced with equipment granted by the government of Japan.

The Ministry noted that port operations were limited to daytime, owing to the lack of night navigation facilities.

Vessels calling at the Port of Trincomalee were forced to anchor at the outer harbhour overnight thus far.

The Ministry said after receiving necessary equipment from the government of Japan, night operations commenced.

The Ministry of Ports and Aviation noted that under a one-billion-yen grant aid project, the government of Japan provided a vessel traffic management system, radar, lighthouse equipment, 16 navigation buoys, two mooring buoys, two 400kV generators, 14 fire pumps and a pilot vessel.
