Representatives of the people’s struggle state that acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe should not put forward his name as a candidate for the election to be held in Parliament on the 20th of July to appoint a new President.
Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo, activists said the struggle will continue until acting President Wickremesinghe resigns.
Members of the people’s struggle said acting President Wickremesinghe does not have the right to contest for the post of Presidency and requested Members of Parliament to fulfill their duty as people’s representatives and heed the voice of the public.
They noted Wickremesinghe did not have to answer to any political party and therefore was free to act as he pleases.
Members of the struggle said having such an individual in power could be dangerous for the nation.
Members of the people’s struggle said the requests of the people were the resignation of Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
They reiterated the struggle will continue until acting President Wickremesinghe steps down from his post.
