Police have informed motorists entering the Colombo city to use alternate routes to avoid congestion due to construction of the New Kelani Bridge.
Accordingly, vehicles entering Colombo along the Kandy Road can avoid Baseline Road and enter Colombo by resorting to the Thotalanga Junction, Prince of Wales Avenue or Bloemendhal Road, from the Nawaloka Roundabout.
Vehicles travelling along Negombo Road can use the Kadirana Bridge and New Road to enter Colombo while vehicles travelling along Old Avissawella Road can travel along Stace Road, Kosgas Junction and Layard’s Broadway and enter Colombo via Prince Of Wales Avenue.
Construction of the New Kelani bridge is in its final stages at present and Police have informed the public that congestion surrounding the bridge in the morning and evening hours can be avoided by using these alternate routes.
