Trade union action by GMOA in four provinces tomorrow

Members attached to the Government Medical Officers’ Association in four provinces will be on strike over the recent tax amendment tomorrow.

COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Members attached to the Government Medical Officers’ Association in four provinces will be on strike over the recent tax amendment tomorrow.

The GMOA earlier announced that the strike will be launched as planned in the Western, Central, Southern and Eastern provinces tomorrow.

Meanwhile, members of several other provinces will join the strike on Tuesday.

Despite the strike, the GMOA said emergency services will not be affected. Secretary of the GMOA Dr. Haritha Aluthge noted the strike will not affect operations at maternity and children’s hospitals, the National Cancer Institute, Nephrology treatment units the National Institute of Mental Health and military hospitals.

Dr. Haritha Aluthge said they will resort to continuous strike action from Wednesday, if they do not receive favourable answers to their demands.
