President Gotabaya Rajapaksa says activities related to the tourism industry will commence from September.
The Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong officially handed over a consignment of 1.6 million doses the Sinopharm vaccine, that arrived in Sri Lanka this morning, to the President at the Presidential Secretariat today.
In addition to these vaccines, a stock of cylinders was also donated.
The vaccines were handed over to the Ministry of Health to be administered to individuals above the age of 30 in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.
72% of the vaccines used in the vaccination process in Sri Lanka is Sinopharm.
President Rajapaksa speaking at the occasion said he appreciates the support rendered by the Chinese government in COVID-19 mitigation efforts by donating 600,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines on the 31st of March, 500,000 on the 26th of May and 1.6 million doses today.
The President said all those over the age of 30 will be vaccinated by the end of August. The President accordingly extended an invitation to Chinese citizens to visit Sri Lanka again.
