Tour guides in Kandy say tour guides have been severely affected by the current fuel crisis.
Member of the Upcountry Tour Guides Association Namal Dhanasekara addressing a media briefing in Kandy said although certain filling station owners are prepared to provide fuel for tourist service providers, the public are opposed to it.
Dhanasekara noted the tourism industry was heavily impacted due to the coronavirus pandemic while the government failed to take measures to ease the burden on the industry.
He said unemployment on a large scale was prevalent due to the deterioration of the tourism sector as many livelihoods depended on the industry.
He requested the government to take steps to provide fuel for guides. He claimed that public disdain results in foreign tourists being inconvenienced.
