Sri Lanka’s shooting champion Tehani Egodawela has been eliminated from the 10m Air Rifle Women’s event after finishing 49th out of 50 competitors in the qualifying round of the 2020 Olympic Games.
Egodawela started well in the event which was staged at the Asaka Shooting Range this morning, totalling 102.9 and 103.8 in the first two series but faltered badly in the final four.
She had a total of 611.5 and managed to finish only above Luna Solomon who was representing the Refugee Olympic Team.
Jeanette Hegg Duestad of Norway set a new Qualification Olympic record and finished on top of in the qualifying rounds with a total of 632.9.
Two shooters from South Korea, one each from the United States, France, China, Switzerland and the Russian Olympic Committee qualified for the finals of the event scheduled to be held at the same venue.
Meanwhile, two more Sri Lankans stars will be in action at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games today.
Swimming sensation Aniqah Gaffoor will compete in the Women’s 100m Butterfly event at 3:55pm Sri Lanka time.
Gaffoor who has an entry time of 1:04.58 will feature in the Heat 1 at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre.
Badminton champion Niluka Karunaratne will meanwhile face Tzu-Wei Wang of Chinese Taipei-Men’s Singles draw at 4:30pm Sri Lanka time.
He must beat the 10th ranked Wang to progress to the last 16 of the singles draw.
