Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake says the country has not been able to store sufficient fuel to last a month in the least, amidst the decision by the government to temporarily close the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery.

Addressing a media briefing today, MP Attanayake questioned how the government is purchasing refined oil, if they lack funds to purchase crude oil.

The MP said the government’s actions indicate there is insufficient fuel stocks for a month adding that the government’s policy is focused on meeting the daily demand for fuel.

Attanayake stated that governments did not face issues when purchasing crude oil even when sanctions were imposed on Iraq and Iran and during the Middle East crisis and other conflicts in the world.

He added Sapugaskanda operated smoothly amidst all this and questioned why there is such an interest in closing Sapugaskanda.

MP Attanayake also claimed that officials have stooped to a new low claiming it could lead to businesses and industries being affected.

He also charged that Sri Lanka is stagnant and is not progressing.
