(NewsRadio); Three women have died in an accident in Narammala yesterday.

The Police Media Division said they died after being hit by a van plying along the Kurunegala-Narammala Road at the Bedigamuwa junction.

Police said the driver lost control of the speeding vehicle which veered off the road, hit a nearby culvert, ricocheted and then rammed onto a bus stop.

Three women who were standing at the bus stop sustained serious injuries in the accident.

Police said two of the women succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Narammala hospital.

Meanwhile, another woman who was transferred to the Kurunegala Teaching hospital also died while receiving treatment.

The deceased, aged 56, 59 and 61 were residents of Bedigamuwa, Narammala.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accident was a result of reckless driving.

Police have arrested the driver of the van.

The Narammala Police is conducting further investigation.
