Endocrinologist Diabetologist Dr. Prasad Katulanda says all individuals with noncommunicable diseases must ensure they obtain COVID-19 vaccines.
Speaking at a media briefing today, Dr. Katulanda said individuals with noncommunicable diseases who are on medication such as insulin, have stated that they won’t obtain the vaccine.
However, Dr. Katulanda said there are no dangers in obtaining vaccines, adding that many health and medical institutions and experts have stated that people with such illnesses must make it a priority to obtain the vaccine.
He stated that persons with noncommunicable illnesses must consider it of critical importance and obtain the vaccine as contracting the coronavirus could lead to complications owing to such underlying health issues.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Health Promotion Bureau Dr. Ranjith Batuwanthudawa said the Bureau has conducted a census on persons who have not obtained the vaccine.
He noted the most common reason cited by those who have not been vaccinated, was that they visit nearby places or only visit farmland.
Dr. Batuwanthudawa said if one is eligible to obtain the vaccine, it should not be delayed.
Another group he noted who have not obtained the vaccine, were those under treatment for various psychiatric illnesses.
Dr. Batuwanthudawa said there is no concern for those under such medication receiving the COVID-jab.
He claimed that another common reason was the inability cited by persons living alone in visiting vaccination centres.
