Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath says it is essential to obtain the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, to minimise the effects of the Omicron coronavirus variant, if the variant begins to spread in the country.
Speaking during a media briefing, Dr. Herath said obtaining the third dose has the potential to reduce complications and deaths, due to the Omicron variant.
He noted the Omicron variant is spreading across the world, adding there is no 100% guarantee that the variant will not enter Sri Lanka, despite taking various precautions.
Dr. Herath said obtaining the third dose will ensure an individual’s safety and reduce the risk of the virus spreading to a certain extent by increasing immunity and reducing the transmissibility of the virus.
